Kasey’s Journey Begins
Hi everyone, this is Kary, and I wanted to share an update on my sister Kasey and her health journey. We’ve created this Webpage to keep everyone informed and to help us stay connected as we move forward together.
A few weeks ago, Kasey noticed a lump in her breast. She went in for a mammogram, and that led to a biopsy—both on the lump and a lymph node. The waiting for results was difficult, and while some of the news wasn’t what we hoped for, there was also good news to hold onto.
Kasey has been diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer. Thankfully, as of now, it has not spread anywhere else that we know of. That’s a big win in the midst of all of this, and we’re holding onto that hope tightly. She had an MRI today and we’ll get those results back sometime next week to get a more complete picture. There is a journey ahead, but Kasey is strong and deeply loved.
Right now, her treatment plan includes six rounds of chemotherapy, one every three weeks. She will also be receiving anti-HER2 therapy, ovary suppression shots, and additional medications since the tumor is being fed by estrogen and progesterone. After chemo, she’ll take some time off before surgery. We don’t yet know exactly what the surgery will involve, but we’ll share more as we learn more.
One of the most important things right now is keeping Kasey healthy and strong so she can stay on track with her treatment. That means avoiding any delays due to illness, which is why we’re asking for everyone’s help in keeping things calm and supportive around her. We know many of you want to help—and honestly, your prayers and positive thoughts are what we need most right now. We kindly ask that you limit direct calls and texts to Kasey, so she has space to rest, process, and focus on her health and being a mom. Please refer to this page for all updates and to leave messages of love and encouragement.
If you need to get a message to Kasey or have a question, feel free to reach out to me (Kary) directly—I’ll make sure it gets passed along when the time is right. In the next week, Kasey will undergo genetic testing and have a port placed for her chemo treatments. While we don’t yet have an exact chemo start date, it will be very soon—within the next couple of weeks.
Kasey is also looking into Cold Cap therapy in hopes of keeping her hair during chemo. This treatment comes with extra costs, and while Kasey would never ask for financial help, I know how important this is to her. If anyone feels moved to contribute toward that expense, I know she would be incredibly thankful. Thank you all for being here, for loving Kasey, and for lifting her up. We’re in this together, and we’ll be posting regular updates here as things progress.
With love and gratitude, Kary
